Lystrosaurus plush! After the Xmas rush I was finally able to take a little breather from custom orders and make something that I’ve wanted to make for a little while now. I remember being in my Evolution of the Earth class once upon a time and learning about Lystrosaurus fossil distribution helping confirm the existence of Pangea. I also love when the Lystrosaurus knocks into the camera in the BBC’s Walking with Monsters. I’m a sucker for a clumsy mammal-like reptile.

A Pachycephalosaurus plush request. I’m happy with how it turned out! Its domey head took a lot more math and time then I had originally anticipated. Oooh geometry.

Amargasaurus! My sewing room is ‘decorated’ with a bunch of nerdy paleontology type posters; one of them being a National Geographic pull out poster from a while ago. It features my favorite Sauropod…Amargasaurus. I think the image has been seeping into my subconscious and I finally decided it needed to be created in plush form. I love its spines and creepy teeth. I put wire in its legs so it can actually stand on its own without any issues. It ended up being just over 2 feet long from nose to tip of tail. A week or so ago my husband and I took a vacation. As normal people choose to do, we thought the best use of our time would be driving aimlessly for days on end so we could enjoy the stiff leather seats of our car. Ok, so it wasn’t so much of an ‘aimless’ drive as it was purposeful. We were storm chasing! Of course that did mean we spent almost the entire vacation in the car, but I managed to sew up some keychains during our trip! A couple of the Ammonite keychains actually got to see the short lived tornado that was produced by the supercell that I’m standing in front of in the photo (photo was taken before the tornado produced). That cell also produced 5 inch hail which we safely avoided :) We went from Wyoming to Nebraska and down to Oklahoma and back. Overall a successful trip!

Ammonite keychains. A little peek (a peek just because I was too lazy to document more of the process) of the creation of my new Ammonite keychains. I hope to carry these as constant items in my Etsy shop like the Eurypterid keychains. All of these have sold already, but hopefully I’ll have a chance to make more soon!

Treveropyge Trilobite keychain. This was a request I was working on for an Etsy customer. Treveropyge Trilobites are known for their very large convex eyes. This is the first time I’ve used wire and beads on a plush, but I think it conveys the general compoundy-ness I was going for. :) And they look angry. Not quite the usual ‘adorable’ end result for me, but maybe that’s because I went a little bit more realistic (probably not color-wise, though hehe).
